From Ed Dennison – for Moore County Board of Education

Fallback Image

I am a veteran Naval Officer and have a Bachelor of Science Degree from Wheeling Jesuit University and have done graduate work at Wayne State University. I have 40 plus years management experience. I have 9 years school board experience and 1400 hours of training as a member of a school board. I was also a founding member of an Educational Foundation.

My community involvement includes:
♣    Sacred Heart Church – Lector & Eucharistic Minister
♣    Knights of Columbus – Grand Knight
♣    Pinehurst Civic Group – President
♣    LWVMC – Board, Budget Chair, & Observer Corps Chair
♣    Moore County Drug Prevention Task Force
♣    Sandhills Garden Society

I have a passion for education and have witnessed how a good vs. a poor education impacts life. In 2005 the average annual income for a high school drop out was $10,000 less than that of a high school graduate. The 2008 high school dropouts in North Carolina will cost the state’s economy $11 billion in wages, taxes and productivity over the student’s lifetimes. We need to ensure all our children graduate from high school and that a large percentage attend and graduate from a college or university or learn skills and a trade that will guarantee them an opportunity to earn a good living.

We need to demand our school programs deliver the expected outcomes and that program results are measurable and monitored by the school board. My priorities are to increase the graduation rate, enhance accountability for the School Board and Superintendent, fiscal responsibility and continuous improvement in student achievement.
