On Saturday, June 13, 2009, The Martial Arts Academy of Southern Pines hosted the USCDKA NORTH CAROLINA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. This is a nationally sanctioned Tae Kwon Do Tournament by the US Chung Do Kwon Association. We had USCDKA member schools from North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and Florida to attend this event. The tournament was held at the Southern Middle School in Aberdeen and ran from 9am to 4pm.
We had over 120 contestants and had events in forms, sparring, Bo staffs, Comas, and exciting X-treme forms by our students. All of the events demonstrated the agility and control of each student.
The Martial Arts Academy of Southern Pines had 74 students who participated in the tournament and they won a total of 127 metals, 72 Gold, 39 Silver and 16 Bronze.
The Tae Kwon Do Program is headed by Grand Master Candidate Melanie Wyatt, a 7th Dan Black Belt and Master Dan Dorton, a 5th Dan Black Belt.
Regular Tae Kwon Do classes for 6 years old and up are on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Our Chung Do Kids, 3 to 5 year old students, train on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 to 4:15. Please check our website: www.maaspi.com for times.
